Switching Gears

How does the body actually switch gears?

Let's say someone has a few shots of vodka and a bag of popcorn, then decides to fast for a few days as penance. How will that break down? Somehow I doubt it looks like this:

Sure we've all have heard that the body will burn alcohol first, then glucose, fat stores and finally protein from muscles and organs, but I doubt it happens in discrete chunks. If a healthy person, say, Martin Berkhan were to do this, I would imagine it would look more like this:

And if it was a glucose addict who's been eating the standard crap diet (SCD) for years and years, it probably looks more like this:

The big CRASH! Leptin and insulin resistance, and a whole bunch of other damage hasn't let those fat stores be open for business for a long, long time. But this is just how I imagine things happening. Maybe the body has a big meat clutch somewhere in the liver. Somehow I doubt it.
